Sherlock Holmes

Synopsis and Movies Sherlock Holmes : The movie opens with Dr. John Watson (Jude Law) and Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan) riding in a carriage in the middle of the night. The scene cuts from the carriage to Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) who is following on foot. He’s in a tremendous hurry – he darts between columns, up and down stairs and around buildings effortlessly – and finally enters a non-descript building.Once inside, Holmes starts running down a spiral staircase, but pauses when he notices a ruffian who is standing guard. He analyzes the situation (the audience actually sees in slow-motion how Holmes plans to take the ruffian guard out), and then disarms the ruffian. Holmes continues running down the stairs, until he reaches the basement, where a black magic ritual is taking place. Holmes hides behind a column to assess the situation again.

In the center of the room, there’s a girl wearing a white dress and lying on a table, while a hooded figure stands over her chanting. Scattered across the room are several other hooded figures and ruffian guards. Holmes begins calculating how to take them out, but is interrupted when a guard comes up from behind him. He has no choice but to engage in a fight with the room.

Once the fighting really begins, most of the other hooded figures scatter. The main figure standing over the girl stays however, and his chanting begins to reach a feverish pitch. Holmes continues to fight and is about to be overwhelmed, when Watson suddenly pops up and takes out several of the men attacking Holmes. They greet each other with amusing banter (their friendship is very much written as a bromance, and come up at several points in the film), where Watson chides Holmes for forgetting to bring his pistol AND forgetting to turn off the stove.

Back at the table, the (possibly possessed) girl reaches up for a dagger and makes to stab herself. Holmes hurries over and stops her just in time. The hooded figure stops to greet Sherlock by name, and is revealed to be Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong). As he taunts Sherlock, Watson comes running over, but is stopped by Holmes. Turns out, Lord Blackwood had some kind of large glass/needle that would have pierced Watson if he had gotten any closer. Holmes directs Watson to put his energies into tending the girl, and Lestrade and his men burst in just in the nick of time.

As Blackwood is led off by Scotland Yard, Lestrade chides Holmes for not waiting for Lestrade’s orders. Holmes says that the girls parents hired him, so he doesn’t report to Lestrade. Before Lestrade can retort, a newspaper photographer who wants to take their picture interrupts him. Holmes throws up an arm and prevents the camera from capturing his face. Thus, all the credit is given to Lestrade instead.

The credits flash by and consist of newspaper headlines detailing Holmes and Watson’s exploits.

The scene now cuts to Baker Street, where Watson is treating an elderly patient.

As he dresses, the patient asks about Watson’s plans to move his medical practice to a new headquarters. Watson confirms that he is moving, and that he hopes to have the touch of a woman around the place soon. The patient congratulates him on his (potential – as Watson hasn’t proposed yet) nuptials, before nervously asking if Holmes is moving too. Watson says no, but is promptly interrupted by several loud blasts that send both men ducking for cover.

The patient leaps up and says that the blasts must be gunfire, but Watson soothes him and tells him that Holmes is probably hanging a picture with nails and hammer. Watson ducks out to check on the commotion, and is met by their housekeeper Mrs. Hudson (Geraldine James). She tells Watson that Sherlock is in a mood, and she hopes that he can calm Sherlock down. At this point, the elderly patient comes out and is about to talk, when there’s the sound of gunfire again. Watson tells Mrs. Hudson to get the patient a cup of tea, and he’ll go see to Sherlock himself. He also asks Mrs. Hudson to bring some food to cheer Sherlock up.

SAW VI

Synopsis and Movie Saw VI : After completing the series of games, unlocking all his shackles, and making it to the final room, William finds himself between the cell that holds Pamela and the cell that holds Tara and Brent. At this point we find that Pamela is William’s sister, and Tara and Brent are the widow and son, respectively, of the man whose death William is facing litigation over. Tara and Brent find that they were merely being held in the cell waiting for William to arrive, and now that he is here, they are given a choice. If they choose, they can kill William in front of his family, just as their loved one was forced to die in front of them. Pamela and William must both plead and beg for mercy, which falls on deaf ears as Tara doesn’t want to see anyone else have to die the way her husband did. However she cannot bring herself to kill William. Brent, however, can, and he causes a large grouping of needles to drop from the ceiling and pierce William’s back, injecting him with enough hydrofluoric acid to turn him into a disgusting pile of goo and organs. In the control room of the building where the game has taken place, Jill incapacitates Hoffman. Through a series of flashbacks, it is revealed that the “five letters” were actually six, and the sixth letter was for Jill herself. It is also shown that the fifth letter, to Amanda, was replaced with one written by Hoffman in which he blackmails her, threatening to reveal a role she’s shown to have played in the death of John and Jill’s baby son, to John unless Amanda kills Dr. Lynn Denton (in Saw III). Since Amanda’s test in this game was actually to refrain from killing Lynn, her game was sabotaged, and Hoffman arranged both Amanda’s and John’s death with one maneuver, ensuring he would emerge as the new Jigsaw without even having to face his own test. The sixth letter, for Jill, contains instructions from John to make sure that Hoffman faces his test and plays his game. A box for Jill contains the infamous “reverse bear trap” that Amanda had to escape from, and Jill locks Hoffman into it. However, Jill has her own axe to grind with Hoffman now, so she arranges for the game to be unwinnable: she straps Hoffman’s wrists to the arms of the armchair he is sitting in, and leaves no key to the trap in the room; essentially leaving Hoffman to die. As Jill leaves, Hoffman struggles frantically in growing fear. Looking at his wrist restraints, he smashes his headset against his left hand, breaking his hand and allowing him to slip it free of the leather strap. He uses his left hand to free his right hand and get out of the chair. However, the key to the device wasn’t left for him and he can’t pull it off his head. With a mere few precious seconds left before the device springs open and rips his jaw off, Hoffman smashes his head through the small window in the door to the control room, which blocks the device from springing open. This buys Hoffman enough time to use the metal bit in his mouth to rip his cheek and the corner of his mouth, so he can slide the bit out of his mouth altogether and finally free his head from the trap. Hoffman throws the trap aside and screams loudly; blood freely flowing from his wound. Although badly injured, he has defeated Jill and survived his game, thus passing the test he tried to avoid and establishing himself as worthy to inherit the legacy of Jigsaw

The Informant

The InformantOne night in early November, 1992, the high-ranking ADM executive did something extraordinary when he confessed to FBI agent Brian Shepard (played by Scott Bakula) that ADM executives-including Whitacre himself-had routinely met with competitors to fix the price of lysine, a food additive. It was initially Whitacre’s wife (played by Melanie Lynskey) who forced Whitacre to become a whistleblower by threatening to go to the FBI herself if he would not have informed the authorities of ADMs illegal price-fixing activities. That meeting marked the first time that a participant in a price fixing cartel had ever voluntarily tipped off law-enforcement officials about a scheme. After informing the FBI, he assisted Dean Paisley (portrayed by Allan Havey), Brian Shepard, and Robert Herndon (played by Joel McHale) in gathering evidence by clandestinely taping the cartels activity in business meetings in locations as far as Tokyo, Paris, Mexico City, and Hong Kong. During Whitacre’s undercover work that spanned almost three years, the FBI collected hundreds of hours of video and audio tapes that documented crimes committed by executives from around the world fixing the prices of food additives in the largest price-fixing case in history at the time. The film portrays that Whitacre went far beyond the call of duty and was one of the best informants ever. At one point, the FBI needed him to tape meetings in Japan, but Whitacre was not allowed to use the government’s equipment. Japan was not U.S. jurisdiction. Brian Shepard and Robert Herndon asked him to purchase his own equipment at a Radio Shack. If Whitacre was arrested in Japan for taping the meetings, there is nothing the FBI could have done to help him. Knowing that, Whitacre went ahead and purchased the tape recorder and tapes, and did exactly what he was asked to do in Japan.

In a stunning turn of events immediately following the covert portion of the case in 1995, headlines around the world reported that the whistleblower defrauded $9 (or maybe $11.5) million from his company at the same period of time he was secretly working for the FBI and taping his co-workers. No sooner did an army of federal agents stage a dramatic raid on ADM’s Illinois headquarters, than the company hit back with damning evidence that the government’s star witness had his own agenda. Whitacre became delusional with the FBI in his failed attempt to save himself. After a suicide attempt, Whitacre and the FBI learned that he was suffering from manic-depression, also known as bipolar disorder with the resulting grandiosity and embellishments in full bloom. Before the ADM price fixing trial began, the FBI learned that their star witness was suffering from mental illness.

The film focuses on Whitacre’s meltdown which occurred from the pressures of working for the FBI. It goes into great detail about Whitacre’s bizarre behavior and how he cracked under pressure working undercover. After working undercover for years, he became extremely manic, stopped sleeping during most nights, and was seen using a gas leaf blower on his driveway during a thunderstorm at three o’clock in the morning. A vintage bipolar symptom, Whitacre attempted suicide a few months later, but he was saved by his groundskeeper.

Whitacre–who is extremely well educated with B.S. and M.S. from Ohio State and a Ph.D. from Cornell University in nutritional biochemistry–was still the most improbable figure of the story. With his extremely poor judgment associated with bipolar disorder that became worse the longer he worked undercover, he believed up to the end that he would become chief executive officer of ADM when the dust settled. His wife tried to convince him otherwise. He also became peculiarly suggestible as his mental state diminished. For example, after seeing the movie, ”The Firm”, he imitated its hero, Mitch McDeere played by Tom Cruise, and began taping the FBI agents and storing the tapes for later use.

In the end, because Whitacre violated his immunity agreement with the government, he was also charged for price-fixing, the same case that he exposed for the FBI, in addition to wire fraud, tax fraud, and money laundering. In order to save Whitacre, his first attorney, James Epstein, presented a sterling performance to the top U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) officials convincing them that the government was not duped by Mark Whitacre, but instead the government created him. Whitacre was the highest-ranked executive to ever turn whistleblower. Epstein emphasized that Whitacre was not trained for FBI undercover work; he was simply thrown in there without any training whatsoever and without any support to prevent him from cracking under pressure. He argued that FBI undercover agents get training for several years, and still do not go undercover longer than a year because they can crack due to the pressure. Whitacre, without training went undercover for almost three years. Epstein told the DOJ officials that he would go public in a trial with everything that Whitacre went through for three years working undercover, and to only be punished after he helped break one of the largest white-collar cases in history. He convinced the government that Whitacre solved a billion dollar case for the FBI, and that the case was a hundred-fold larger than Whitacre’s fraud. Epstein was successful in getting a very light sentence for Whitacre. He saved Whitacre. However, Whitacre, with his manic-depression fully out of control by then, saw it differently and he fired Epstein because he was not willing to do any jail time.

Whitacre then hired another attorney and they distanced themselves from the government where Whitacre was no longer of value to them as a witness. The government used the tapes in the ADM trials, but not Whitacre. In turn, Whitacre received a federal prison sentence that was three-times longer than the white-collar criminals he exposed in a much larger criminal conspiracy. Kurt Eichenwald, author of ”The informant” which was the source for this film, and several FBI agents adamantly disagreed with the nine-year sentence that Whitacre received. The story ends with the three FBI agents, and a former prosecutor involved with the case, working on their attempt to obtain clemency or a presidential pardon for Whitacre in return for his substantial assistance with one of the largest and most important white-collar cases in U.S. history.

Tau man ji D

Two mountain road racers, Nakazato and Takahashi, challenged each other to find the best racers, and defeat them in "battles". Nakazato was surprisingly defeated by an old Toyota Trueno AE86 (Corolla in the US) one night, and he searched for the person who defeated him, which lead him to the Speedstars, a local team. But the car who beat him was actually driven by a local Tofu shop owner's son, Takumi Fujiwara, who had unknowingly perfected the art of mountain racing through daily deliveries of tofu. Takumi was able to defeat Nakazato again, showing that he is no fluke. However, winning hasn't helped him home life, as his father, Bunta Fujiwara, was a drunkard (and a racing genius). His girlfriend Natsuki Mogi wants his attention even though she's got a dark and shameful secret, and his best friend Itsuki (who has no talent in driving) wants Takumi to teach him road racing... after buying the WRONG car. In a mountain road encounter, they ran into Team Emperor's Mitsubishi Evo, and normally the old junker don't stand a chance, but when controlled by Takumi they were able to defeat the Evo... And attract the wrath of Sudou, Team Emperor's leader. In another chance encounter, Sudou ran the AE86 and Takumi to the limit... and beyond... Forcing the AE86 out with a busted engine. However, Takahashi is there to lend a hand. With Bunta's help, they repaired the AE86, this time with a true racing engine, and a three-way showdown between Takahashi, Fujiwara, and Sudou is on... Who will be the winner at the end?

Romeo & Juliet

The story is, of course, about a pair of star-crossed lovers. Two teenagers pursue their love for each other despite the fact that their families have been at odds with each other for decades. The story combines swordfighting, disguise, misunderstanding, tragedy, humor, and some of the most romantic language found in literature all in the name of true love.

In Verona, Italy, two powerful families the Montagues and the Capulets have been feuding with each other for years. Old Capulet, Juliet's father, throws a party to which he invites all his friends. The Montagues are not invited of course, but Romeo devises a plan to get a look at Rosaline; a young girl he has been pursing. He disguises himself and slips into the party. Once inside, his attention is stolen; not by Rosaline, but by Juliet. Romeo falls instantly in love, but is disappointed when he finds out that Juliet is a Capulet. Juliet notices Romeo too, but she is unaware that he is a member of the hated Montagues.

Later, after discovering that the young man who caught her eye is a member of the enemy family, Juliet goes out onto her balcony to tell the stars about her strong but forbidden love. At the same time, Romeo is lurking in the bushes below. He overhears Juliet confess her love for him to the heavens. No longer able to control his powerful feelings, Romeo reveals himself to her and admits that he feels the same. The very next day, with the help of Romeo's friend Friar Lawrence, Romeo and Juliet are secretly married.

On the day of the wedding, two of Romeo's friends, Benvolio and Mercutio, are walking through the streets of Verona when they are confronted by Juliet's cousin, Tybalt. Tybalt is out to get Romeo for crashing the Capulet's party so he starts a fight with his friends. Romeo shows up, but does not want to fight Tybalt because he no longer holds a grudge against Juliet's family. Romeo's friends can't understand why he won't stand up for himself so Mercutio steps in to do it for him. A swordfight with Tybalt follows. Mercutio is killed. To avenge the death of his friend, Romeo kills Tybalt, an act that will award him even more hatred from the Capulet family. The Prince of Verona banishes Romeo and he is forced to leave Juliet, who is devastated by the loss of her love. Juliet's father, not knowing of his daughter's marriage, decides to marry her to another young man named Paris.

In despair, Juliet consults with Friar Laurence. He advises her to agree to the marriage, but on the morning of the wedding, she will drink a potion that h e prepares for her. The potion will make it look like Juliet is dead and she will be put into the Capulet burial vault. Then, the Friar will send Romeo to rescue her. She does as the Friar says and is put into the vault by her heartbroken parents.

Bad news travels fast. Before the Friar can tell Romeo of the hoax, Romeo hears from someone else that his beloved Juliet is dead. Overcome with grief, Romeo buys a poison and goes to Juliet's tomb to die beside his wife. At the door of the tomb, Romeo is forced to fight Paris, whom he swiftly kills. Nothing will s top him from joining his love. Inside the vault, Romeo drinks the poison and ta kes his last breath next to his sleeping wife.

Moments later, Juliet awakens to see her husband's dead body. She learns what has happened from Friar Laurence who has just arrived and accessed the scene. With no reason left to live, Juliet kills herself with Romeo's dagger. The tragedy has a tremendous impact on both the Montagues an d the Capulets. The families are hurt so much by the death of their childre n that they agree to never fight again.

Swordfish

Stanley Jobson (Hugh Jackman) is an elite hacker who infected the FBI's Carnivore program with a potent computer virus, delaying its deployment by several years. For this, he was arrested by Agent Roberts (Don Cheadle), convicted of computer crimes and spent two years in Leavenworth. A condition of his parole is that he is forbidden from touching, much less using, a computer. His ex-wife, Melissa, has sole custody over their daughter Holly and some form of restraining order against Stanley from seeing Holly.

While Stanley is at home in rural Texas practicing his golf swing, a woman named Ginger Knowles (Halle Berry) shows up to solicit his hacking skills for her boss Gabriel Shear (John Travolta). For an initial $100,000 he agrees to meet with Gabriel. He and Ginger fly to Los Angeles, California and meet Gabriel in a night club. Gabriel pressures Stanley right-then-and-there to hack a government system in 60 seconds while at gun point and receiving oral sex. Although it was just a test (the gun was not loaded) Stanley succeeded in hacking the system, a feat that Gabriel had not anticipated.

At Gabriel's house he convinces Stanley to write a worm for $10 million that steals money from a secret government slush fund on the order of $9.5 billion. Gabriel reveals to Stanley that he works for an organization called the Black Cell that was started by J. Edgar Hoover in the 1950s, which is responsible for retaliatory attacks against terrorists who have attacked Americans. It is currently headed by Senator Reisman. Reisman discovers that the FBI has caught onto Gabriel and attempts to pull the plug. After Gabriel refuses to terminate plans Reisman attempts to have Gabriel killed, which fails. Gabriel tracks the Senator down while he is fly fishing in Bend, Oregon and kills Reisman.

Gabriel proceeds with his plan and raids the local branch of the WORLDBANC. He takes hostages and deploys Stanley's worm. After stealing the $9.5B he boards the hostages and his crew on a bus out of the bank. Gabriel demands a plane at the local airport (a hostage negotiation cliché) but it was a diversion. An S-64 Aircrane swoops down, lifts the bus, and releases it on the rooftop of a skyscraper. From the rooftop, Gabriel departs with his team in a helicopter which is shot down by Stanley with a rocket-propelled grenade. At the morgue, Stanley realizes it was more misdirection and Gabriel was not on the helicopter and "Gabriel Shear" is an alias.

The end of the film shows Ginger and "Gabriel" in Monte Carlo transferring that $9.5B into other accounts. The final scene shows a yacht being destroyed and a news anchor voice narrating that a suspected terrorist died on that yacht, althought the dvd does contain an alternate ending wherein Ginger is told in the bank that the account is already empty, alluding to the possibility that Stanley has played one final trick on them and taken the money himself.

Fanboys

It's the Halloween party they've all been waiting for, to have fun with friends and hang out with fellow Star Wars fans and partners in crime. However, events take a turn when one of their bunch who long ago outgrew his old gang and took on adult responsibilities is suddenly in their midst again. Reconnecting is not easy. But soon, Eric, Windows, Hutch and Zoe realize that Linus will not live long enough to experience what's been on their minds for ages: The long-awaited theatrical release of Star Wars - Episode I, which is still several months away. Linus once again suggests to his friends what he's been scheming since fifth grade: Breaking into Skywalker Ranch, this time to steal a print of the movie. Crazy, right? But it might be the only way for Linus to see the movie before he dies. So as insane as it sounds, they take Hutch's van and embark on a mission to drive across half the country to the Ranch.

Fast & Furious 4

After a successful run at hijacking fuel tanks on the highways of the Dominican Republic, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) leaves his girlfriend Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and his gang, as he is now an international criminal. Eventually, Dominic's partner Han (Sung Kang) flees to Tokyo, causing Dominic to also flee. One day, in Panama, Dominic receives a phone call from his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster), who tells him that Letty was just murdered. Dominic returns to Los Angeles, California, to find out who murdered Letty. After Letty's funeral, Dominic asks his sister to take him to the site where Letty's accident occurred. At the scene, Dom finds traces of nitromethane residue that can only be purchased at one body shop in L.A.. At the body shop, he finds one of his old racing counterparts that, after being coerced, leads him to a man named David Park. Dominic finds Park and hangs him out of a window threatening to drop him and vowing to kill anyone that stands in his way of avenging Letty. He receives the information that only through a street race, arranged by Ramon Campos, can he gain access to the man responsible for Letty's death.

Meanwhile, Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker)now an FBI agent, is assigned to track down a notorious drug lord named Arturo Braga. Brian, after chasing down a criminal on foot, receives information also leading to David Park. Both Dominic and Brian, having received the same information are led to the underground entrance race that guarantees them a spot on the team that traffics heroin across the United States-Mexico border. During the race, Dominic and Brian outlast all of their competitors until the two of them remain and head towards the finish line neck and neck, Dominic sideswipes Brian's car ensuring that he comes in first, securing his spot on the team so that he can seek justice on Letty's behalf. Having lost the race, Brian uses his influence at the FBI to ensure that one of the other members on Braga's team, Dwight Mueller, gets arrested for "distribution of methamphetamine," in order to usurp his spot of the team. At a party, Ramon Campos, Braga's right hand man, welcomes them to the team and gives them a GPS that will alert them to where they will begin their race. Dominic ends up in a confrontation with a racer identified as Fenix, the driver of the car that collided with Letty before firing the shot that killed her.

Dominic and Brian both receive the coordinates to meet with Campos and are transported, along with their cars by semi-trailer to the Mexican border to receive the heroin that they are to transport, from there they are to follow Fenix's lead to the other side through an underground tunnel so they aren't seen by the satellite images and forward looking infrared used to monitor the borders. After the transport, Dominic realizes that the drivers are thought of as disposable and that after successful trafficking of the product they are shot and killed in order to avoid paying them. Letty, having been in the same situation was the only driver to get away when they attempted to shoot her, it was the pursuit that led to the car crash and subsequent shooting causing her death. Dom anticipated the double-dealing because of the warning given by Gisele, Braga's liason, in the form of the Spanish phrase "vaya con dios", set his car to explode by discharging nitrous oxide with the spark from the cigarette lighter in his car after he learns from Fenix that he was responsible for killing Letty with no remorse. Brian hijacks one of the Hummers carrying the heroin, escaping the gunfire, and head back to the U.S., where Dominic learns that Brian was contacted by Letty who agreed to infiltrate and collect information leading to Braga in exchange for clemency for Dominic. Brian speaks to his superiors about a plan that he has devised to trade the heroin for Braga if they will pardon Dominic.

An exchange is arranged with Campos, 6 million dollars for the heroin, provided that Braga be the one to deliver the money personally. The FBI is poised to arrest Braga at the exchange site, however, Dominic and Brian both realize that Campos is in fact Braga before the FBI does and the raid is botched. Braga evades capture and flees over the Mexican border out of the FBI's jurisdiction. Brian and Dominic head after him on their own and find him in a cathedral praying for salvation. They kidnap Braga with intent to take him back to the United States where he can be tried and imprisoned for drug trafficking, but after having taken him captive they are chased by Braga's henchmen. The chase leads to the same underground tunnels that they went through in order to transport the drugs into the United States. Once on the United States side of the border, Dominic kills Fenix by crushing him with his car and Braga is finally apprehended by the FBI, as is Dominic.

Dominic is tried for his crimes and, though Brian appealed to the courts on his behalf, is sentenced to "25 years to life without the possibility of early parole." The movie concludes with Brian, Mia, Tego, and Rico racing towards the prison bus transporting Dom to the Lompoc Penitentiary.
